Mission, Vision, and Core Values
Mission Statement: Daybreak Community Church exists to join God in turning unchurched people into fully devoted followers of Jesus Christ and will be a catalyst in a worldwide church planting movement.
Overarching Vision: A new day has dawned...Daybreak Community Church will be a church where God's light of salvation through Jesus Christ will dawn in the hearts and minds of unchurched people. And as the unchurched come to Christ, they will be encouraged to participate in helping fuel a Church Planting Movement here in the Midwest and in other key places around the world.
The people living in darkness have seen a great light; on those living in the land of the shadow of death a light has dawned. Matthew 4:16 (a direct quote from Isaiah 9:1-2 about the messiah to come)
The biblical model for church life comes from the first chapters in the book of Acts.
They devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and to the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. Everyone was filled with awe, and many wonders and miraculous signs were done by the apostles. All the believers were together and had everything in common. Selling their possessions and goods, they gave to anyone as he had need. Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved. Acts 2:42-47.
We pray that God would choose to use us in a way that brings Acts 2 to reality for those in this part of Kansas City during the first part of the 21st century. We pray that we become a place where it's normal for people to be devoted to Jesus' teaching, to meal sharing, to heartfelt prayer, to radical sharing of possessions, and to gatherings large and small of those who want to investigate the claims of Christ in a loving atmosphere. We pray that as a result of our community, the Lord would add and multiply the numbers of those who cross the line of faith in Jesus.
Beyond what we see in Acts 2, we pray that we would be fulfilling our responsibility in reaching out to our world with the message of Jesus.
In Acts 1:8, Jesus himself gave us the blueprint...
You will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth." (Jesus) Acts 1:8
Daybreak will constantly strive to do our part in our Jerusalem (in our part of Johnson County), in our Judea (Kansas City), in our Samaria (with peoples in our region who are not like us), and to the ends of the earth (in other places in the world). To do this, we will be primarily focused on the strategic starting of new churches that target people who don't know Christ.
Why church planting? Because those who track these things tell us that church planting is the most effective way to win people to Christ and offer them a chance to grow into fully devoted followers of Christ. Statistically speaking, the only places in the world where gains are being made in turning greater percentages of people into followers of Christ, are in those places in the world where church planting movements are taking place. Because of this, we want to be at the heart of what is the most strategic activity in world evangelization.
