Steve Reed
Pastor

To a large degree, Daybreak is a reflection of our pastor, Steve Reed. Daybreak is Steve's 5th church to be a part of starting, and he hopes it's his last! In recent years Steve has become a coach for church planters. In starting Daybreak, Steve dreams that it becomes a training ground and launch pad for new churches. Already, we've had church planters stay with us for a couple of years and then launch a new church. About a year ago, LifeQuest Community Church became our first daughter congregation. They meet in Belton, Missouri, and have already doubled our impact in Kansas City. If you have friends or family over in that part of the city, we'd highly recommend that church to you.
One of Steve's endearing qualities is his ability to teach in a fun and enjoyable environment. He's known for sharing Sunday messages with warmth and humor(not to mention some over-used cliches that have become an inside joke within the church). And he loves to take Biblical truths that others might find difficult to understand and make it both easy to understand and highly relevant to our real-life, everyday challenges. Steve is also a coach to other teachers, and loves to teach others how to teach. He's developed a team of folks from our church who now participate in giving messages on Sundays. While Steve is the primary speaker, others now share in that time as well. Steve has a passion to make Daybreak a place where every person can use their gift--no matter what it is.
In addition to the ministry Daybreak has in Johnson County, Steve has led us to be involved in other ministries both locally and around the world. Because Steve speaks Spanish fluently, he has been a part of helping in ministries targeted to Hispanics. Every 6 months, he takes a team to Guatemala where we've started a ministry to help start innovative churches there. Already, that ministry has grown beyond our wildest imagination. New churches are starting in various locations. On these trips, we've taken medical teams, sports teams, and those with a desire to meet people in a cross cultural adventure. It's becoming an amazing story in and of itself, and is at the heart of Daybreak's beginnings.
An avid sports fan, Steve went to college at Oklahoma State Universtiy where he was a football kicker and a punter. He has been married to his wife, Nola for 20 years. They have three boys...Josh, age 16...Zach, age 13...and Ryan, age 10. When Steve isn't going to one of the boy's ball games, he can be found working on a book that he hopes to get published this next year.
