What to expect from a typical Daybreak service

Interested in checking out a Daybreak service? Great! We think you'll have a fantastic experience. Here's some common questions people ask us about our services:

What do most people wear at your church? We are casual in our dress, so jeans, shorts--whatever you feel comfortable in, is fine. Our pastor and platform people don't wear suits or ties, so no need to try and dress up for us.

What's the music style like? The primary style is a bluesy rock style. But our band has been known to do a country tune every so often (we're talking the newer styles of country rock), and will even do some of the more edgy music like Creed or other bands of that genre. We often use secular songs that are popular on the radio as a starting point for a message on a topic raised by one of those songs.

How long does the service last? About an hour and fifteen minutes. Most folks tell us that they hardly realize it's already been an hour or so when we close our service.

Is there child care for children? Yes! We have programming for preschool children simultaneous with the Sunday service, and a full range of activities during the 11:00 small group time for birth through 6th grade. Learning is fun and fast paced. Kids love it. This ministry is called "KidZone." Check out the KidZone section of this website for more detailed info. Note that we do have ministries for youth as well. Check out their section of the website too.  The youth (6th - 12th grade) have their own small group time at 11:00 as well.

Are first time guests singled out in the service? No. You will never be put on the spot or embarrassed. We hope you meet some friendly folks around you as you come and go, but no need to feel like you're going to be on display in any way.

What about the offering, how does that work? We have a basket at the back and sometimes pass it during the service. Please do not feel any obligation to give money during our service. That is for people who are regular attenders of Daybreak. If you contribute at Daybreak, we certainly appreciate it and believe that God will bless you, but we don't expect it from you when you check us out. Our service is our gift to you. Enjoy it as our guest!

How many people attend Daybreak on a typical Sunday? Daybreak is still a young congregation (about 5 years old), but we have grown to about 80-120 people who come on a typical Sunday. We hope we grow up to be one of the largest small churches around! Folks tell us they like the fact that you can get to know people pretty easily in our church, and we hope to continue that dynamic as we grow. Sometimes we say that we're large enough to have a good Sunday service, but small enough for you to really get to know people if you want that.

We are multi-cultural family and value being a place where people from all over the world are welcomed and celebrated.

Where and when are your services? Sundays we have a 9:45 a.m. service with a 11:00 a.m. Small Group time for all ages. Wednesdays at 7pm, we offer "New Community"--a gathering for a time of prayer and leadership development. We're located at 63rd and Lackman--just two blocks north of Shawnee Mission Parkway and Lackman in Shawnee, Kansas. If you have children, come a few minutes early to get them settled in KiDZONE. Then enjoy the service!
